Apple Peach Crisp

I love a good apple crisp. It’s one of those desserts that tastes delightful year round. Yet something about using fresh apples from fall apple picking season to make an apple crisp, just feels like tradition. Don’t get me wrong, apple pie is delicious and so good. But apple crisp is faster, easier, and I think pretty darn great when you don’t have the patience for the pie. And since I had a craving for a fruited crisp, and it’s nearly fall now, I thought, why not throw in some of my ripened peaches? You could do pear and apple as another lovely combination. I opted for peaches as I had them handy, and it also represents the perfect blend of holding on to the last bit of summer as fall inevitably makes herself known.

This crisp is so easy to make, prep is super simple as are the ingredients. If you don’t have it on your list to make a homemade apple crisp, get your ingredients together and make this for a Sunday evening dinner, or just because. Or add it to your Thanksgiving dessert menu. Simple and delicious.

Prep/Bake Time: 15-20 minutes prep; 45-50 minutes bake time

Ingredients:

5 medium apples peeled, cored and sliced thinly

3 medium-large peaches peeled, pitted and sliced thinly

1/2 cup unsalted butter room temperature sliced into cubes

1 cup flour

1/2 cup oats

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp nutmeg

2 tsp cinnamon

2 Tbsp orange juice

3-4 Tbsp melted caramel sauce

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine sliced fruit and layer into the orange juice lining a greased baking dish 9″ or 10.” Mix dry ingredients together in a medium bowl and whisk together. Add in butter and using hands, work the mixture together to form a crumb topping. Evenly distribute topping over the sliced fruit layers. Insert the crisp into the oven for 45-50 minutes. Topping should be golden and crispy. Drizzle melted caramel sauce over the top of the crust. Heat sauce in microwave if needed for 20 seconds at a time to make it easier to drizzle.

Serve the Apple Peach Crisp with vanilla bean ice cream or fresh whipped creme. Enjoy for dessert and breakfast!
